This is an awesome Rainmeter skin perfect for people just getting started with Rainmeter. Great work!

Available Plugins:

~theumad and ~toastbrotpascal present Vark

The problem with all the textual icons is, that although some icon-creators put more than 200 of them in a package, you still have some programs that's not in there.

And let's face it: the icons are just text. So, why not create it in Rainmeter?
But there was one problem:
Rainmeter doesn't offer the possibility to have as many shortcuts as you want. There's always some kind of limit.

So, we got the idea to make a program that actually creates Rainmeter-skins, to give the user the possibility to have an totally unlimited amount of shortcuts.

As we use Rainmeter, we also put in some Measure-like skins for CPU, RAM and all that stuff, as it kinda makes sense.

Then we just added some configure-skin to make sure everyone can use Vark without editing some .ini first and put in neat stuff like a transparent bar (which automatically resizes if you change the font-size via the configure-skin, btw) and the great RainRBG program from JSMorley and GetWeatherCode by poiru, so it's even more easy to get this things done.

Vark may look like a simple skin, but it's a lot of work in detail. And btw: I hope the preview doesn't look that bad. Go check out my beach-shot and you'll see how it looks on a real desk :)

The config tool does all the job for you - providing an unlimited amount of shortcuts with no need to edit any .ini files.

Vark also comes with Measures for almost anything, including Weather, Time, CPU and a lot more.

To download, simply click the download button on the right hand side of this page.

Note that you need to have the latest version of Rainmeter to run this skin which can be found here [link]

We would also like to thank:

I was only able to create 10 shortcuts. But now when i try to create a new one, it says "request completed" and nothing shows...so is there a limit..or is there something i should know? Mind you, im kinda new at this..

well, if its failing for you try creating them manually.
There isn't supposed to be a limit. Check that they aren't being hidden or something.

Great theme and exactly what I was looking for.  My only problem is that 99% of the time it doesn't create a shortcut.  I have to repeatedly do the steps for it to finally show, and out of all the ones I've tried I've only had one success so far (doing the exact same thing over and over).

unfortunately this skin was built at a time when features in rainmeter were just basic, so we had to work with what we had at that time. However I appreciate that you liked this skin and found it useful :)

This is really great! Something tho, I'm not sure if it's me, normal behavior of the skin or something's wrong. When I go to create a skin for a shortcut I "Browse File" to the program I want a shortcut for and select it. When I "Create Dock" a folder called Shortcuts is created in the same folder as the program I chose. So when I hit refresh and "Click HERE" to open it nothing happens. Took me a while to figure out what was wrong LOL

I 'think' this might have something to do with the fact I install Rainmeter using the Portable option.

Kudos! Great Skin!

Never mind- hate to clog up your comments feed, but the shortcut turned up in the drive itself instead of the rainmeter skins folder. Thought you might wanna know. Thanks anyway!

Hey Theumad! Thanks for creating my favorite rainmeter skin of all time.
But I have a quick tech support question, for some reason I can't figure out how to add a second hard drive icon. I have the C: skin up, and when I try to use the configurator and add a second one, it doesn't show up on any list or anything even after I restart rainmeter and refresh a couple hundred times. Anything you'd think I'm doing wrong?

Theumad - I'm running a 64bit, Windows 8 OS Ultrabook and have been unable to resize the fonts or change the bar.ini color via the configure.ini. Are there limitations under this configuaration? Any suggestions?

Thank You

hey, im totally in love with your work!

is there anyway for me to add a background for each icon created and it highlights when you hover over it?

If you could instruct me on how to do it, i can try it myself.

Kind Regards in advance,
Sim

it certainly can be done however you need to code it yourself. You can get help on how to do this at rainmeter.net :)

I hope this helps and sorry I couldn't help you however I currently don't have the time to teach Rainmeter right now. Hope you understand.

Theumad.

thanks, i really like have textual icons over the other. I was wondering if you will be adding additional options for font style or is there a way I can change it now?
Thanks,
Keith

you can change it by changing the individual ini styles. I don't actually plan on releasing an update anytime soon since I too busy with personal projects.

Hi!

This is great, and I love it. Thank you very much for creating it.

I do have a small problem, though. For some reason, after I create a new skin for a folder, or a website, or anything like that, it gets stuck in the upper left corner and I can't move it. Yes, it's clickable and dragable, but when I try and move it, it just ignores my clicks. It does highlight when I mouse over it, and when I click on it and release without trying to drag it, it does launch whatever I make the skin for. I'm just unable to move it for whatever reason. Any ideas?

try dragging it from the bottom text.
that is, do not try dragging it from the bit of text that gets highlighted but from the text underneath that.
I hope this help :)

Absolutely in awe at the potential, and literally twitching in my chair to use this (It's a wonder I'm even spelling correctly :P), but I got hung up in the configuration process:
I want to use this as a secondary task bar of sorts, but I can't figure out a way to keep various programs from going under it (Yeah, I clicked "stay topmost" box). I'd like for programs to stop at the bar when I maximize them. Is there an easy way to do this?

P.S. I got this far, but I'm not exactly tech-savy :-P
P.P.S. I apologize in advance if this question was asked already!

i do not understand exactly your problem :/

if you mean that the text is going under the bar, then try setting the bar as 'stay at bottom' as well as the shortcut to stay topmost.

No, I've got all the buttons figured out. I just don't want other programs (i.e. chrome, windows explorer, Word, etc.) to overlap it. If it's possible. Here's an example of what it's doing that's a little frustrating: [link]
